People suspect that the Aztec Civilization is from Northern Mexico, because they were a nomadic tribe. During 1345 and 1521, the Aztec people arrived in Mesoamerica. Today Mesoamerica is, the central and southern portion of Mexico, all of Guatemala, Belize and part of El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua. The Aztecs had to grow their crops in that hot and humid environment, which made the man-made canals helpful, as they would flood with fresh flowing water to drink. The Aztecs had to grow their crops in that hot and humid environment, so when they created the islands it made it easier to pile mud and lake material on top of each other, which made the crop soil more wet and better for growing fresh fruits and vegetables. Some of the crops they grew were sweet potatoes, beans, tomatoes, corn, and squash, which is similar to what Americans grow today. The capital of the Aztec empire, Tenochtitlan, was covered with houses, apartments, factories, and markets, which made it similar to some of the cities and state in America.
The Aztec religion is a very complicated belief system that included their rituals and their gods to help them understand their world, reality, and death. Some of their rituals involved festivals, banquets, music/dancing, decoration of statues, and burning incense. Another ritual they have is human sacrifice, which is when a person gives their heart to the sons of gods for good crops and good weather. The Aztecs also believed that the world is split into 3 parts: the heavens, earth, and the underworld. The Aztecs seem to be dedicated and true to their beliefs since more than a million Aztecs still exist in Mexico today.
